The doors that "lock" protecting access to the hex tightening bolt are thin plastic so I would not waste my money on the locks. If someone is determined to steal your racks and already is equipped with an allen wrench they are not really going to be deterred by a low quality lock on a thin plastic door. so I simply remove the racks when not in use, I can do it literally in 60s. I just keep the bars in the feet because like I said that was the hardest part. If the locks went into the hole where the allen bolt is and secured to metal they would be effective. When all is said and done with one of these rack setups along with carrier you probably spent about $500+ so save the $50 on the locks they give a false sense of security and are not a deterrent.
I am very happy I went with this rack system. It is very sturdy once it is all clamped down. It looks just awesome on top of my truck (I have received several nice comments on the rack since I installed it).
I changed the location called out by the install for the foot packs on my cab. First I moved the front feet more rearward to get a more level front crossbar. I also moved the rear foot packs further back allowing for a wider spacing as I could see no reason (except hitting your head on the long bars when getting in the rear door) to go with the specified spacing.
After a test drive I found the whole thing very noisy above 45 mph. I then installed the 52" AirScreen Fairing which I had bought just in case. That took care of the noise. I can drive at 80 mph now with no real noise issues.
However, by adding the fairing to the front crossbar I found that I had to move the front foot packs back forward for two reasons; one, the corrugated roof wouldn't let the feet of the fairing rest evenly on the roof and two, I had to move it more forward than the spec called for because the GPS receiver on the roof also interfered with the feet of the fairing. So in the end I moved the front foot packs several inches closer than the spec and the rear foot packs I left in the position that I placed them at originally which gives me maybe 40 inches between my square bars (recalling the actual measurement from memory so it may not be correct). The end result is I have a lot more space between my the foot packs than what the spec said.
I am totally happy with this system and would do the same again. Don't forget the 1787 Traverse System Fit Kit for your 15'-18' F-150.

In my experience, I've had great luck with the longevity of Thule products so I have no doubt that these will last as long as your car. The install was pretty straightforward; just follow the measurements detailed in the booklet and you are well on your way to completing the install sooner rather than later, especially with a helper.
Good luck with your purchase and have fun out there!

Cons: Crazy expensive for what it is. BUT it does give you piece of mind when you have expensive toys mounted to your car roof
